Khoya Gujiya | Homemade Gujiya Recipe | Holi Special | Mawa Gujiya

A no-fail Gujiya recipe that is a treat on the festival of Holi! Do try this recipe and tell us how it turns out.

Makes 12-15 Gujiyas

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour or maida

  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp clarified butter or ghee

  • 1/4 cup water, for kneading the dough

  • 250 gms khoya or mawa

  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut

  • 1/4 cup suji or rava

  • 2 tbsp ghee

  • 10-12 mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios)

  • 8-10 raisins

  • 1 tsp elaichi or cardamom powder

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • Oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add maida and 1/4 cup ghee and rub it with your fingers, so that ghee is incorporated well in the flour.

  2. Now add water gradually to knead it into a soft yet stiff dough.

  3. Cover and rest the dough for 20 minutes.

  4. For the stuffing, add 2 tbsp ghee in a pan. Fry the nuts in ghee, till golden brown. Then transfer them to a plate and chop them roughly.

  5. In the same pan, roast desiccated coconut till slightly brown. Transfer it to a bowl.

  6. In the same pan, dry roast suji till slightly golden brown. Transfer to the same bowl.

  7. In the same pan, now add khoya or mawa, cook it for 2-3 minutes on low flame.

  8. To the warm khoya, add powdered sugar and elaichi powder.

  9. Add roasted suji and coconut powder.

  10. Finally add in the chopped nuts and raisins. Mix well and transfer it to a bowl and allow it to cool down.

  11. After 20 minutes, uncover the dough and knead it for 2-3 minutes.

  12. For making the gujiyas, take a small ball of dough and roll it into a thin round sheet.

  13. Place the thin round sheet into a Gujiya mould and add 1/2 tbsp of stuffing to it.

  14. Seal the edges with water and press them together.

  15. Fry the Gujiya’s in hot oil for 5-7 minutes.
