Ingredients
1 cup chana dal or yellow split peas
1/2 cup lauki, washed, peeled and cut in cubes
1 tsp turmeric/haldi powder
2.5 tsp salt, adjust to taste
3.5 cups water
1/4 tsp hing or asafoetida
For Tempering/Tadka
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
Instructions
To a pressure cooker add chana dal and lauki along with turmeric, salt, hing and water.
Pressure cook for 6 whistles on high heat then lower the heat and let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally. Then set it aside.
In a pan, heat ghee on medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds. Saute for few seconds until fragrant.
Add the green chillies and garlic-ginger paste. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
Then add the red chilli powder. Turn off the gas.
Open the pressure cooker and mix the dal. Let the dal simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
Pour the tadka over the dal and mix well.
Garnish it with cilantro and serve.
