Ingredients
1/2 cup moong dal chilka
1/2 cup rice, uncooked
7 cups water
3.5 tsp salt
1 tsp turmeric powder
pinch of hing
For the tadka
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp ghee or clarified butter
1 tsp ginger-chilli paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala, garnish
Instructions
Take 1/2 cup moong dal chilka and 1/2 cup uncooked rice and wash them thoroughly.
Now add them to a pressure cooker and add 7 cups water to it alongwith salt, turmeric powder and hing.
Let it soak for 1-2 hours.
After soaking, put on the flame and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
Now for the tadka, in a pan take 2 tbsp ghee and add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.
Add ginger-chilli paste and let it cook for a few seconds. Then add onions and cook till they turn translucent.
Add chilli powder and pour the tadka over the prepared khichdi.
Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle some garam masala on top.
