Rose Makhana Phirni | मखाना फ़िरनी | Vrat Special | Navratri Special Recipe

Happy Navratri to everyone. This simple yet delicious Rose Makhana Phirni is perfect treat during the festive days of Navratri.


Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 4 cups full fat milk

  • 1/2 cup boiled sama rice, churned or grinded

  • 2 tbsp ghee or clarified butter

  • 2 cups makhana or fox nuts

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp elaichi or cardamom powder

  • 1/2 tsp rose essence

  • 2-3 drops of yellow colour

  • Few saffron strands

  • 2 tbsp mixed nuts (pistachio, cashews, almonds)

Instructions

  1. In a pan, add ghee and roast the mixed nuts till golden brown.

  2. Then in the same pan, roast makhana on a low flame, till lightly brown. Once done, remove from the pan.

  3. To the pan, add milk and let it come to a boil.

  4. Add grinded rice, sugar and elaichi powder.

  5. Simmer and let it cook till it thickens. Keep stirring continuously.

  6. Add makhana, yellow colour and rose essence and cook for 5 more minutes.

  7. Serve chilled, garnished with roasted nuts and a few saffron strands.
