Tomato Onion Chutney | Without Garlic | Tangy Tomato Chutney

This Tomato Onion Chutney is so easy to make and so tasty to have! It has no garlic and you can even skip the onion if you want.


Makes 1 bowl

Ingredients

  • 3 tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 onion, sliced

  • 3 dried red chillies

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder or haldi

  • 1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder

  • 1 tsp salt or to taste

  • 1 tbsp oil

For tempering or tadka:

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 2 dried red chillies

  • 1 tsp urad dal

  • 1/2 tsp rai or mustard seeds

  • 3-4 curry leaves

  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida or hing

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan, add oil and onions.

  2. Add tomatoes and red chillies and saute them for a minute.

  3. Add all the spices and cover and cook for 2 minutes.

  4. Remove the lid and mix them well.

  5. Transfer to a bowl and allow it to cool down. Then grind it to a fine puree.

  6. For the tadka, heat oil in a pan.

  7. Add rai seeds and allow them to splutter.

  8. Add curry leaves, whole dried red chillies, urad dal and hing.

  9. Pour the tadka over the chutney.

  10. Serve the delicious Tomato Chutney with Dosa, Uttapam or Idlis.
